Didier Deschamps tells Mikel Arteta how to unleash Houssem Aouar amid talk of Arsenal transfer

Didier Deschamps has told Arsenal how to get the best out of Houssem Aouar.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners this summer and has seen his impressive form rewarded with a maiden call-up to the French senior squad.

With Paul Pogba absent from the squad, there is a space in midfield that Aouar could slot into, but Deschamps has warned not to expect too much from the Lyon star when defending.

Speaking about calling Aouar up to the World Cup winners’ squad for the first time, Deschamps said he was impressed with the player’s versatility.

Deschamps said: “He is an attacking midfielder who can play central or off a wing – he is much less a defensive player.”

The Gunners are not the only club interested in Aouar, with Juventus and Manchester City also keeping tabs on him.

Recent reports in France claimed that Juve’s appointment of Andrea Pirlo as manager may swing the chase in the Old Lady’s favour, with Aouar said to be a big fan of the former Italian midfielder.

Aouar is valued at around £45m and, whilst the Gunners are trying to negotiate a deal for him with Lyon, they will also likely have to sell in order to buy.
