Arsenal transfer rumours: Gabriel Magalhaes deal to be announced, Lucas Torreira eyed

Arsenal are just days away from returning to competitive action with a Community Shield date with Liverpool on Saturday.

But behind the scenes, the Gunners are plugging away as they look to wrap up new signings ahead of the new Premier League season, which begins on September 12.

It looks as though Arsenal might have got one of their men with Lille star Gabriel Magalhaes looking set to make the move to North London.

Gabriel a done deal

Arsenal will announce the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes this week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have won the race for the Lille defender and contracts have ‘already been signed’.

It’s claimed Gabriel has penned a five-year deal with the Gunners with the fee reported elsewhere as between £25-£30m.

“Arsenal are planning to announce Gabriel Magalhães signing on this week,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “Contracts have been signed until June 2025 also with his agents. White circleRed circle #AFC #Arsenal”

How Arsenal won Gabriel race

Arsenal have won the race for Gabriel thanks to one man.

According to transfer expert Duncan Castles, the Gunners will beat the likes of Manchester United and Napoli to the centre-back thanks to the role played by sporting director Edu.

“Monday morning, I’m told [Napoli] came back to Lille with an improved offer for Gabriel, improved on what Arsenal had offered them, of €32m and tried to have the medical for Gabriel stalled so that they could complete the deal,” he said on the Transfer Window podcast.

Gabriel is expected to sign for Arsenal in the coming days.

“Lille, however, concluded with Arsenal and said ‘you can carry on, you can go to London to finish the move’.

“I’m told that part of the factor in that going through at less money for Arsenal than…
