Emiliano Martinez sends pointed message to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over Arsenal contract

Talk around the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not likely to go away any time soon.

The Gabonese striker is entering the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and there appears to be no sign of a conclusion to contract talks.

Head coach Mikel Arteta is confident the frontman will stay beyond next season and is planning on building his team around the African striker.

Speaking after the cup triumph, Arteta said: “Everything is based on my conversations with him, how he sees his future, what I expect from him, the team I want to build around him and the conversations I have with the people that are very influential around him.

“We all respect him, we admire him. We know the players we have and we have to value him. If we reach all of those points I think we’ll get an agreement.”

But, talk around his future will only continue, particularly after Aubameyang refused to talk about it himself in his post-match interview.

He was asked about his future and he said: “I’m really not thinking about this. I just want to enjoy this with the guys and take the trophy.”

Aubameyang is well liked at the club, but at 31 he is looking for the final big contract of his career and a final few years of silverware to add to his collection.

And Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has sent a message to Aubameyang to sign a new deal with the club.

Posting a reply to Aubameyang’s picture with Arteta, with the caption ‘My manager’, Martinez sent a host of emojis back to the Gabon frontman.

The emojis were all pens on paper, pens and a padlock with a key next to it, suggesting the goalkeeper wanted his team-mate to unlock the pen and sign a deal to stay at Arsenal.
