Arsenal return to Premier League action on Wednesday and are looking to return to winning ways after a late effort in the North London derby condemned them to defeat against Tottenham.
That result, accompanied by the news that Manchester City’s appeal against a two-year ban from UEFA competitions was successful, has damaged the Gunners’ chances of playing in Europe next season.
The FA Cup could now be Arsenal’s best route into continental competitions next season but Mikel Arteta will still want his side to do everything they can in the final weeks of the campaign.
However, it will not be an easy task as next up is a clash with Premier League champions Liverpool – a game which continues a run of difficult matches.
Having faced Wolves, Leicester and Tottenham, the game with Liverpool falls ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City and the busy schedule means that the entire squad needs to be ready.
That could finally give an opportunity to Mesut Ozil, who is yet to feature for Arsenal since the season restarted in June, and he’s issued a message.
Posting on social media ahead of the clash with Liverpool, he posted ‘I am ready’ in capitals, with each letter spaced out for additional emphasis.
Whether Ozil will get an opportunity against Jurgen Klopp’s side remains to be seen, especially as there is no clear area for him with Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos impressing as a midfield pair.
With their roles deeper than Ozil’s best position, it may be that it is another game that passes the German by but, if called upon, he seems confident of making his mark.
