Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has slammed Hector Bellerin, claiming the Arsenal star is ‘not a great defender’, and told Mikel Arteta to sell several ‘senior’ players this summer.

Bellerin is closing in on 200 appearances for the Gunners and has developed into a fans’ favourite at the Emirates since joining the club from Barcelona in 2011.

But Cascarino – who played for the likes of Chelsea, Celtic, Marseille and Ireland during his career – has never rated the Spaniard.

Bellerin has played 90 minutes of both of Arsenal’s matches since the Premier League returned last week, with Arteta’s side losing to Manchester City and Brighton.

‘Their right-back position is a problem. Hector Bellerin is not a good right-back for me,’ Cascarino told talkSPORT.

‘He’s quick, he’s pleasing on the eye. I don’t think he’s a great defender, I never have done.

‘But who’s putting pressure on him? [Ainsley] Maitland-Niles has become a sort of wing-back, but he’s not going to do it.
