Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola still ‘exchange WhatsApp messages’ despite the pair being set to go head to head on Wednesday night.

Arsenal and Manchester City will square off in a behind closed doors game tomorrow when the Premier League resumes.

Arteta will get the chance to test himself against one of the best managers, and teams, in world football as the Gunners desperately look to improve on their ninth-placed position in the table.

The former Arsenal captain worked under Guardiola as his assistant as he saw first hand how the ex-Barcelona boss worked his magic.

Arteta got his first big break in management when Arsenal made their move for him last year but he’s still been getting advice off his pal.

According to the Daily Mail, the pair are in regular contact over WhatsApp, and remain good friends.

And while Arsenal look a better side he still has plenty of work to do if he is to come close to challenging Guardiola’s men for silverware.

Arteta holds Guardiola in high regard and previously described the three years he spent with him at City as “incredible”.

“First of all the person, it is an incredible pleasure to work alongside someone like him,” Arteta said.
