Granit Xhaka on how Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving Arsenal would affect club

Granit Xhaka has expressed his fears that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s potential Arsenal exit would have a devastating impact on the team and club as a whole.

Aubameyang has been a prolific goalscorer for the Gunners since arriving from Borussia Dortmund two years ago but he has yet to agree a contract extension.

Negotiations have stalled and the Gabon star could walk away for free at the end of next season if fresh terms cannot be agreed.

His future at the club could depend on whether Arsenal manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

But with Mikel Arteta’s team currently ninth the prospect does not seem overly likely.

Xhaka’s own future in north London was in severe doubt after a bust up with Arsenal fans earlier this season, although the relationship has since been mended.

And the Swiss midfielder did not seem too hopeful about the prospect of Aubameyang staying amid transfer links with Real Madrid.

Asked about the speculation linking Aubameyang with a move, Arsenal midfielder Xhaka told SportBild: “If that were to happen, it would, of course, be a great loss for the team and the club.
