Arsenal transfer target Pau Torres learning English as it’s ‘good time’ to study it

Arsenal transfer target Pau Torres has revealed that he has been studying English amid rumours about a move to the Emirates.

The 23-year-old has been brilliant for Villarreal this season after returning from a loan spell at Malaga.

The Gunners were considering a January swoop for the Spaniard before agreeing a £4.2million loan deal for Flamengo defender Pablo Mari.

Torres has a £43m release clause in his new contract but it is believed he remains on Mikel Arteta’s wanted list.

And the player himself has hinted at a potential move to the Premier League by revealing that he’s been learning English to pass the time amid the coronavirus lockdown.

When quizzed over whether he fields calls about his highly-rated team-mates, the 35-year-old told Marca: “Yes, friends from Arsenal especially.

“They ask me about them and think they can make the jump to the Premiership tomorrow.”

He added: “It’s good that great teams are interested in young players from Villarreal, but for the moment I tell them to leave them alone here.

“They still have to take steps forward. They both have a great personality, and their feet are on the ground.
