Arteta eyes Soler swoop

Arteta has cobbled together his central midfield thus far. Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Dani Ceballos have all played parts under the Spaniard. However, Arsenal need to bolster the position, and they might be returning to La Liga to find the solution.

According to Sky Sports, Arteta views Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler as a potential option in central midfield. The 23-year-old has established himself as a key player for Los Ches, making 105 La Liga and 11 Champions League appearances in recent seasons.

In all competitions, Soler is a former Spanish under-21 international, has 17 goals and has shown himself to be an all-around midfielder passer, completing 78.9% of his passes this season while completing 1.5 tackles per game.

Meanwhile, Valencia are in financial difficulty. According to Marca, they must raise £36million in player sales before June 30 in order to balance their books. Soler is tied to a long contract, but Arsenal could play hardball and muscle a cheap price.

Mariano Diaz is also a part of the squad but is viewed only as a reserve.

As such, with the 32-year-old Benzema still relied upon to score a large portion of Madrid’s goals in Cristiano Ronaldo’s…
