Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal transfer plans for summer ahead of Newcastle clash

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that he is already planning for the summer transfer window with the Gunners struggling this season.

Arsenal sit tenth in the Premier League, winning just six of their 25 matches so far.

They welcome Newcastle to the Emirates on Sunday as Arteta looks to lead his side to their first league win since New Year’s Day.

But focus is not all on the match with the Spaniard, who only took charge of Arsenal in December, admitting that he is thinking about the summer transfer window.

“We have to plan and we need to know the direction we want to head in and we need to bear in mind different scenarios,” Arteta said.

“I have to tell the club what we need, where we think we can improve and where we want to end.

“And if we all end with the same thing, we put a plan together to try and execute it and make the process as short as possible.”

Arsenal did spend big last summer bringing Nicolas Pepe to the club for £72m.

William Saliba was also signed for £27m though returned to Saint Etienne on loan until the end of the current season.
