Arsenal will resume their Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon when they welcome Newcastle United to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners will head into the clash off the back of the Premier League winter break looking to halt a run of four successive league draws.
Whilst the recent break will have presented Gunners boss Mikel Arteta with plenty of time to get to work on the training ground with his players, it will have also offered him the chance to sit down with the Gunners’ hierarchy and set out his stall for the upcoming summer transfer window.
With that in mind, here is a round-up of all the very latest Arsenal transfer news.
Gunners eye Villarreal duo
Arsenal are interested in signing Villarreal duo Samuel Chukwueze and Pau Torres, according to former Gunners midfielder Santi Cazorla, who now plays for the La Liga club.
Winger Samuel Chukwueze came close to joining the Gunners back in 2016 whilst Torries, a left-sided centre-back, was linked with a move to the Emirates prior to the recent January transfer window.
Asked if he had received calls about the duo, Cazorla told Marca: “Yeah, mainly my Arsenal friends.
“They ask me about them and they think that they can make the jump to the Premier League soon.
“It’s good that big clubs are interested in the young players at Villarreal but, for the moment, I’m asking them to let them stay here. They still have to make more steps [in their development].”
Arsenal’s Upamecano blow
Arsenal have been joined by European heavyweights Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, report Just Arsenal.
Frenchman Upamecano is widely considered as one of the best young centre-backs in football right now, with his impressive showings for Leipzig catching the eye.
But any hopes the Gunners may have had of signing the 21-year-old in the summer may have been dealt a huge blow, with both Barcelona and Bayern, with respect, looking like a far more luxurious move than a switch to North London.
Arteta’s stance on Saka exit rumours
Gunners chief Arteta has refused to comment on rumours linking youngster Bukayo Saka with a move to either Liverpool or Manchester United.
Saka has made a great impression in his breakthrough season for the Gunners this term, leading to speculation that he is a target for other Premier League clubs. But Arsenal have plans to extend the winger’s current contract and ensure he is a part of Arteta’s long-term future.
As reported by ourselves – football.london – Arteta has paid little interest to those rumours linking the winger with an exit from the Emirates.
Arteta said: “I’m really happy with how they (the young players) are developing.
“Part of their development is to improve their contract and tie them to the club but I have to follow a natural process.”
