Norwich City U18 2 – 2 Under 18 – Match Report

WHAT HAPPENED

Despite a strong performance after going down to 10 men, we were denied all three points on the road as Norwich City struck a late equaliser on Wednesday afternoon.

We started brightly and were rewarded when Ben Cottrell took advantage of an error from the Norwich defence, and poked home with the outside of his boot from close range.

The Canaries looked uncomfortable when playing out from the back, and we almost took advantage again when Cottrell led the press, won back the ball and forced Sam Blair into an acrobatic save with an effort from the edge of the area.

On the stroke of half-time the hosts were awarded a penalty when Thomas Dickson-Peters pinched the ball from Miguel Azeez inside the area and went down under a challenge from our midfielder. He then stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.

Shortly after half time we were reduced to 10 men when, substitute Matthew Dennis was forced off with an injury after Ken Gillard had made all three substitutions.

Despite Dennis’ injury, we were still on top and retook the lead when Sam Greenwood collected the ball inside the box, before teeing up Alfie Matthews to fire an unstoppable effort into the top corner.

In injury time Norwich snatched a point when a free-kick from the edge of the box was blocked, before the ball broke to Zach Dronfield whose effort hit the post and nestled into the back of the net.
