Dries Mertens ‘increasingly unlikely to sign new Napoli contract’ as Chelsea and Man United lurk

Dries Mertens ‘increasingly unlikely to sign a new contract at Napoli’… as Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United line up in bid to sign prolific striker for free in the summer

  • Dries Mertens will be available to leave Napoli on a free transfer in the summer
  • The Belgian was heavily courted by Chelsea in the January transfer window
  • The Belgian forward also interested Arsenal and Manchester United last month
  • Mertens is just three goals short of breaking Marek Hamsik’s goalscoring record

Dries Mertens is increasingly likely to move away from Napoli on a free transfer in the summer – with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal all reportedly vying for his signature.

The 32-year-old striker will be a free agent in June, but was not prepared to leave the club last month as he is on the verge of breaking Marek Hamsik’s all-time record as Napoli top scorer.

Chelsea were in hot pursuit of a new striker in the January transfer window and had a £6million bid for the Belgian rejected.
