Arsenal news: Cedric Soares transfer latest, Aubameyang decision made, fans spot Pablo Mari hint

It is transfer deadline day and Arsenal are still hoping to complete some late business.

The Gunners have only signed one player so far this month, with Flamengo defender Pablo Mari joining on an initial loan deal on Wednesday.

But the Gunners are hopeful of getting another deal for a defender done before the 11pm deadline, with Southampton right-back Cedric Soares heavily linked with a move to north London.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta will certainly be hoping to have some new faces to call upon over the next few weeks and months, with the Gunners currently preparing for a return to Premier League action and a trip to face Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

Ahead of that, and the deadline in the transfer window, we look at the latest Arsenal news, below.

Cedric Soares transfer latest

Arsenal are hoping to tie up a deal to sign Cedric Soares before the transfer deadline.

And from Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s point of view, the ball is in Arsenal’s court to get the deal done.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Saints’ Premier League trip to Liverpool, Hasenhuttl all but confirmed the Portuguese defender would be leaving.

“From our side yes,” the Austrian said when asked if the arrival of Kyle Walker-Peters on loan from Tottenham had opened the door for Cedric to leave.

“The fact is that he’s out of contract in the summer. He is injured at the moment so it will take three or four weeks until he can play again.

“For the club and for him it’s best and we say ‘Okay, if you want to leave, you only have two or three months on your contract and it’s better to go and we are concentrating on developing other players.

“This is our way, this is our philosophy. We went this way for more than a year and see young players developing well. We have a few bright diamonds in our youth and we will have a lot of fun with them in the future and Kyle Walker-Peters can be one of them.”

Soares, who is out of contract at Southampton this summer, is set to join Arsenal on loan, with the Gunners covering his wages and paying the Saints a fee.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang boost

The future of Arsenal’s captain has been the source of much speculation in the January transfer window.

The striker, who will have just one year left on his current Arsenal contract at the end of the season, has been strongly linked with a move to Spain, amid reported interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

French club Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked, while The Telegraph reported that Arsenal were expecting an approach from Barcelona for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the final week of the transfer window.
