Arteta calls Adrien Rabiot

Mikel Arteta has personally called Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot to outline the vision of his ‘project’ in North London, according to FootMercato , as he aims to persuade the France international to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Rabiot only joined Maurizio Sarri’s side in the summer on a free transfer, following the expiration of his deal with Paris Saint-Germain, but has struggled to nail down a regular starting berth in Turin.

As such, his future is shrouded in speculation – although Juventus do not want to lose the player and are instead said to be willing to offload former Liverpool man Emre Can.

Arsenal were among the clubs previously touted with Rabiot’s services when it became clear he would leave PSG and there is certainly room for him at the club, especially with Granit Xhaka pushing for an exit.

Atletico Madrid have joined Arsenal in the hunt for Napoli forward Dries Mertens, who is available for just £8.5m in January, according to reports cited by the Daily Mail.

The Belgian international sees his contract in Naples expire at the end of the season and the Serie A side are prepared to accept a departure in the New Year in order to recoup a fee for his services.
