Arsenal ‘convinced’ £146m transfer spree would lead to Unai Emery title challenge

Despite major squad investment of around £146m in the summer, Arsenal opted to part ways with Unai Emery yesterday after a poor run of results has left the Gunners eighth in the Premier League.

They did spend big at the start of the season though, backing Emery with the £72m signing of Nicolas Pepe, shelling out £25m for Kieran Tierney and adding David Luiz for £8m.

Dani Ceballos was also brought in on loan from Real Madrid , while youngsters Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba also committed their futures to the Emirates in big money deals.
