Senior figures at Arsenal were split over when to sack Unai Emery after head of football Raul Sanllehi lined up a deal to bring in Jose Mourinho, Sportsmail understands.
Sanllehi believed Mourinho would have joined the Gunners had they axed Emery sooner, only to see the Portuguese boss replace Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs last week.
