Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Caglar Soyuncu in 2018.
The Gunners had already signed Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund, but an overhaul of their defence was required and Freiburg centre-back Soyuncu was seen as a perfect addition to the new team being put together by Unai Emery.
Soyuncu had even prepared himself for a move to the Emirates Stadium when he said: “I hope I go to Arsenal.
“I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team.”
However, Arsenal’s interest dried up and Soyuncu eventually did make his dream move to the Premier League, with Leicester City shelling out £19million for the Turkish international’s services.
