Unai Emery explains why Shkodran Mustafi did not leave Arsenal in the summer

Unai Emery says he is prepared to give Shkodran Mustafi a fresh start in his Arsenal squad after his attempts to sell the error-prone centre-back fell on deaf ears.

As reported prior to the European transfer window closing, Mustafi was unwilling to push for a move away from Arsenal despite Emery’s private and public indications that he would be better off departing the club.

Emery did much the same with regards to Mohamed Elneny, who went on loan to Besiktas, whilst Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nacho Monreal also departed in the final days of the European transfer window.
